About the region
La Mitad del Mundo is a blend of coffees grown in different areas of Ecuador, with a special focus on the Loja region in the south of the country. Despite its small size, Ecuador boasts extraordinary geographical diversity : from the Amazon rainforest to the Andean highlands, passing through fertile valleys that provide an ideal microclimate for specialty coffee.
In Loja , the high altitudes, nutrient-rich soil, and the combination of Andean climate and native flora allow for a coffee with notes of cocoa and various fruits , characteristic of this area. Small producers work under agroforestry systems, intercropping guabo and porotillo trees that enrich the soil with nitrogen and protect biodiversity.
The harvest is manual and selective ; the cherries are fermented between 24 and 100 hours, dry or with water, with careful pH control to achieve maximum expressiveness. The washing and drying process (between 15 and 30 days in the shade) guarantees a clean and complex cup.
This coffee reflects the passion of families who, generation after generation, combine traditional knowledge and continuous improvements to preserve natural resources and maintain the exceptional quality that characterizes Ecuadorian coffee.
